Court Appointed Special Advocates are community volunteers trained to represent the best interests of children who are part of the court system due to abuse or neglect. As a CASA, you can make a huge difference in a child's life during this uncertain time.
Advocates are assigned to their first case after 30 hours of training. A portion of the training is done in person with the Program Director and a portion is done as an Independent Study. Once assigned a case, you will have the support of the Director and seasoned advocates to help you.
The amount of time required varies, but is usually around five hours per month. The beginning of a case takes a bit more time than that. You will need to be available to attend Hearings approximately once every three months and Team Meetings approximately once a month.
